Kids birthday parties in Adelaide: the complete guide for parents of 3 to 10 year olds
Planning a kids birthday party in Adelaide can feel overwhelming. There are soft play centres, cinemas, parks, and every kind of activity venue — and when your child is between 3 and 10, the options multiply fast.
If you are looking for something a little more special than a standard venue hire — something your child’s friends will actually talk about on Monday morning — here is a complete guide to what is available in Adelaide, and what makes an art party worth considering.
What parents of 3 to 10 year olds actually want from a birthday party
Most parents we speak to want three things: something the kids genuinely enjoy, something that does not require the birthday parent to run around managing chaos for three hours, and something that feels a little different to last year’s party.
The venue should handle the activity. The setup. The cleanup. And ideally, the kids should leave with something they made themselves — something that becomes the memory, not just the lolly bag.
Art birthday parties in Adelaide
Art parties have grown significantly in popularity in Adelaide over the past few years, and for good reason. Children aged 3 to 10 are at a stage where making something with their hands — something they can hold up and say “I made that” — is genuinely exciting. It does not require prior skill. It works for shy kids and loud kids equally. And it gives the party a natural structure that removes the “what do we do now?” problem entirely.
At Mini Ivy Art Studio in Torrensville, we run three types of art birthday parties:
Play Art Lab Party — from $550 (best for under 5s)
A sensory, exploratory art party designed specifically for younger children. Think textured paints, clay pressing, finger painting and mixed media stations. Child-led, joyful, and perfectly pitched for 3 and 4 year olds who learn best through touch and exploration.
Paint and Sip Party — from $600 (ages 5 and up)
Each child paints their own canvas guided by our educator — with a custom palette, a step-by-step process, and a finished artwork to take home. Our most popular party format. Works beautifully for ages 5 to 10 and produces the kind of proud, held-up-for-the-photo moment every birthday parent hopes for.
Sip and Clay Party — from $650 (ages 5 and up)
Children create their own air-dry clay sculpture — pinch pots, animal figures, textured tiles — in a guided session led by our educator. Clay is one of the most engaging materials for this age group, and the finished pieces dry beautifully at home.
What is included
Every Mini Ivy birthday party includes:
- Three hours of exclusive studio hire
- A 1.5 hour hosted art session led by a qualified educator
- Full setup and cleanup — you arrive, you celebrate, you leave
- Up to 10 children in the base package, with additional children available
- Every child takes their artwork home
Families bring their own food and cake. A parent of the birthday child stays on-site. The rest of the party parents are welcome to drop off and return for pickup.
How to choose the right party for your child’s age
Ages 3 to 4: Play Art Lab is the right fit. Sensory, open-ended and perfectly suited to where 3 and 4 year olds are developmentally. No pressure to produce a “finished” piece — the experience is the party.
Ages 5 to 7: Paint and Sip is our most popular choice for this group. Children are ready to follow a guided process and enormously proud of a finished canvas they made themselves.
Ages 7 to 10: Both Paint and Sip and Sip and Clay work well. Older children often prefer clay for the novelty and the tactile engagement — it feels more like a “grown-up” activity.
Where we are
