School holiday art activities in Adelaide for 3 to 6 year olds: what’s on this July

The school holidays are here and if you have a 3 to 6 year old at home, you know the question that comes every single day: what are we doing today?

We have pulled together the best options in Adelaide this July for little ones who need something more than a screen and a snack. And we have something free happening right now that you should know about.

Mini Ivy at Brickworks Marketplace: free art sessions these school holidays

We have set up at Brickworks Marketplace in Torrensville and we are running free drop-in art sessions for children aged 3 to 6 every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of the school holidays, from 11am to 1pm.

No booking needed. Just walk in.

And every parent who comes along gets a free coffee voucher. Because you deserve one.

Dates:

  • Tuesday 8 July, 11am to 1pm
  • Thursday 10 July, 11am to 1pm
  • Saturday 12 July, 11am to 1pm
  • Tuesday 14 July, 11am to 1pm
  • Thursday 17 July, 11am to 1pm
  • Saturday 19 July, 11am to 1pm

Location: Brickworks Marketplace, Torrensville. Walk-in, no booking required.

These sessions are a chance to come and meet our educators, see how we work with little ones, and let your child experience structured creative play in a relaxed, no-pressure setting. Come as you are.

Why structured art matters for this age group

Between 3 and 6, a child’s brain is building the architecture for focus, persistence and emotional regulation. Structured creative activity, the kind where a child tries something hard, gets it wrong, and tries again, is one of the most powerful ways to wire those skills in.

That is not an opinion. It is what the research on early childhood brain development consistently shows. And it is why what looks like “just drawing” is actually something much more significant.

Other things to do in Adelaide these school holidays with a 3 to 6 year old

South Australian Museum, city

Free entry. The natural history collection is genuinely fascinating for little ones, especially the dinosaur and marine life exhibits. Plan for 60 to 90 minutes and bring snacks.

Adelaide Botanic Garden, city

Free entry. The sensory garden is a beautiful space for young children. Bring a picnic, let them explore, and count it as outdoor learning. The Amazon Water Lily Pavilion is worth the visit year-round.

Glenelg Beach

July in Adelaide is mild enough for a beach walk even if not a swim. Glenelg has cafes, playgrounds and a jetty your child will want to walk to the end of. Easy tram ride from the city if you want to make a morning of it.

Adelaide Central Market, city

Busier on weekends but wonderful on a weekday morning. Let your child pick one ingredient from the market and cook it together at home. It turns a shopping trip into something they will talk about for days.

Looking ahead to Term 3

If the school holidays have reminded you that your child thrives with structure and creative challenge, Term 3 enrolments are now open at Mini Ivy Art Studio in Torrensville.

Our weekly sessions run Monday to Friday for children aged 3 to 6. Same educator every week, the same time, the same studio. The kind of predictable routine that lets a young child settle in, build confidence, and actually grow.

The best way to start is a free Discovery Session, 60 minutes, no obligation, so your child can experience it and you can see exactly how we work.
