Art Classes for Kids Adelaide: What to Expect at Mini Ivy
Starting your child in a new activity can feel like a big step — especially when they’re on the younger side. If you’ve been thinking about art classes for your little one, here’s an honest look at what happens when you walk through the door at Mini Ivy, and why so many Adelaide families keep coming back term after term.
Who Mini Ivy Is For
Mini Ivy is designed specifically for children aged 3 to 6. That’s not an accident. This age group is in a unique window of development — curious, expressive, and learning how to communicate feelings and ideas that they don’t yet have the words for. Art gives them a language.
Our small-group classes run for 1.5 hours and are held at our two Adelaide studios — one in Torrensville and one in Payneham — so there’s likely a location close to home.
What a Typical Session Looks Like
Every session has a loose structure, but it’s never rigid. We start by settling in, then move into the main art activity for the day — painting, drawing, mixed media, collage — guided by our educators who know how to encourage without hovering.
What we’re not doing is producing identical artworks that all look the same. We’re interested in the process: the choices your child makes, the colours they reach for, the stories they tell while they work.
By the end of the session, your child will have created something they’re proud of — and they’ll have done it themselves.
Small Groups, Real Attention
We deliberately keep our groups small. This isn’t a drop-off-and-hope situation. Our educators know each child’s name, their confidence level, and where they’re at week to week. If your child needs a little more encouragement or a little more independence, we adjust.
What to Bring
Honestly? Just your child. All materials are included in the session price ($49 per session). Wear something you don’t mind getting a bit of paint on!
Not Sure Yet? Try a Free Session First
We offer a free trial class for first-time families. It’s the best way to see whether Mini Ivy is the right fit — no pressure, no commitment. Your child gets to explore the space, meet the educators, and try a real session.
Whether you’re in the northern suburbs, the south, or somewhere in between, we’d love to meet your little one. Come and see what a great art class looks like.
